Wool Education in New Zealand

Today (27.10.2023), I visited our local primary school who are learning about wool. They are the rural school who has opted out of the New Zealand Ministry of Education's funding for synthetic carpet and are funding their own NZ wool carpet from Bremworth Wool Carpets + Rugs

It always makes me feel proud of my NZ heritage and upbringing when I can pass my knowledge and thoughts onto young children.

First we talked about how I grew up (and how many others of that era) on a NZ sheep farm and a bit about my journey of where I am today with my business and life.

Then we had some discussion time and we thought of all the uses that we knew of for wool. They reminded me of a few! Like wool plasters.

Then they had a minute to discuss with their buddies what could wool be used for, what wasn't invented yet and think about alternatives to plastic. Drink bottles, fire bombs!, hair ties.

Next was why wool is a great fibre. Safe, biodegradable, long lasting. They knew most of this
Question time was next. How long does it take to make a pair of socks? How is wool made? How many sheep farms have I been to? 111 apparently

These children really knew their wool and why they were installing wool carpet in their school
I told them it was all about choice and NZ wool needs their knowledge of wool to make the future a better one environmentally for NZ. To say "no Mum and Dad we don't want synthetic carpet, wool carpet is better".

Thank you for the opportunity Rotherham School. My cup is full
