 Win a Beanie Competition

August 4, 2008

I'm so happy to be sending these little people their new 100% merino wool beanie. It was very hard to pick just 15 as there were so many deserving entries! Don't forget, winners, we'd love to see your photos when you receive your beanie. Good luck keeping them all on their heads and away from the dogs etc. Thank you for your entries and supporting Cosy Toes just by reading our newsletters.

Keep warm and dry,

Tracey

The winners:

  1. Living high in the Southern Alps with temperatures regularly going below -10 degrees C I think our little boy Thomas would certainly appreciate a cosy toes beanie. (We reached a wind chill temperature of -20.7 degrees in August last year!) Whether he deserves one is up to you!
    Cheers Eleanor Reid.

Eleanor adds: "Many thanks for the beanie you sent last month. It arrived just in time for our big snow, almost 1m of the stuff! Now with spring upon us it is a great little lightweight hat to carry around in a pocket, just in case."

  2. Why do I need a baby beanie? Well, I'm a first time mum living in the heart of Central Otago. I've no experience in dressing a baby for these cold conditions. I'm expecting my first baby in a few weeks and I'm worried whether I'll have enough of the right clothes to dress (her) warmly. However, the hills are covered with wrinkly merino sheep managing to look cosy even when the hoarfrost has dressed them in white ice crystals. I'm therefore confident that a beanie (an essential part of the New Zealand national costume) made of merino wool (the best natural climatic conditioner) would be a perfect and essential piece of garment for me and my daughter. It would create a sense of peace of mind in this 'first time mum's' worried little heart. -and it would go perfectly with the little merino socks I brought of you and have sitting in the draw, waiting for her arrival! Stay warm and all the best for the rest of the winter! Jane Legarth-Robb.

India Grace, 5 months old. (February 2009)
Jane adds: Its very warm and she keeps it on!

  3. My son is 4 1/2 months old and loves going for walks with his dog Shy, unfortunately Shy has run off and buried beanie after beanie and I am hesitant to take him out in this cold without one. As we live in the country it is hard for me to get into town to buy him a new one. Please send us a beanie so my son can once again enjoy his winter walks, and I will make sure we keep this one well out of Shy's grasp!
    Thanks Erin Burton

  4. The Beanie would be ideal for when my wee man goes out on the boat with his dad, who is a water taxi operator in the Marlborough Sounds. It would be great on those frosty winter mornings! and he would look just like his Dad who never leaves home in Winter without one of his beanies ... this has a lot to do with his bald head : )
    Cheers Sheriee Jamieson

  5. I would like to nominate my daughter for a baby beanie. She now lives in Busselton (WA) and is expecting my fourth grandchild (a 4th boy in fact) later this year. Everyone seems to think it is forever hot in Australia - that is not the case! In the past I have knitted wee hats and cardis for my grandchildren but my eyes are not up to it anymore - and I do believe that all babies should wear hats. They lose so much heat from their heads.

  6. There is a new little boy named Ben McNae
He arrived 1 June in Hamilton and is here to stay,
Initially his day was during our night,
Giving his new parents a bit of a fright
Now his cries, poo and smiles make all of our days!
Wee Ben is my nephew and I would love to nominate him for one of your beanies, Hamiltons foggy mornings could sure use a beanie as his mum trots him off round the lake.
    Tania McLean.

  7. I would like to nominate my first grandchild for the beanie competition. My daughter lives in Edinburgh. She is married to a Scot and they are expecting their first baby in January. Katy misses New Zealand and especially woollen products. I have recently sent her some merino clothing to keep out the cold. The baby will be born in the middle of UK winter so I am sure Katy and Stephen would be delighted with a beanie for the baby.

  8. Why does Juliet deserve a woolly beanie?
"Hat" was the first baby sign language word that our little Juliet took on. She likes to yank them off her head and present them to me like a trophy while signing "hat". She is absolutely fascinated by hats and I am hoping that a merino wool beanie will be soft enough to entice her to leave it on her head.
    Christina Freeman

Christina adds: "A quick note to say thanks again for the awesome little merino beanie that you sent us for Juliet a little while ago."

  9. My baby deserves a beanie because ...
We live in the Aniseed Valley ... and do you know what that means at this time of year??? FREEZING! We have perpetual frost right outside our door which means not only is it freezing but being in a valley means it is also shady ... i.e. it does not warm up!! When the frost melts through the day it just becomes damp and shady instead of frosty and shady!! So you may be thinking ... 0h well a bit more inside play then which is all very well when you live in a normal size house. We live in a 50 square metre house with three children aged one, two and four years old. This recipe means outside time is a MUST! Because it is rather uninviting to go outside at this time of year (and being all girls they're not quite as tough!) I would REALLY APPRECIATE a warm beanie to aid the process from inside to outside and help keep Mum sane this winter (and the numbers down in the local Mental Health Hospital!!)
    Thanks so much Fleur Holland

  10. My poor fourth child really deserves to win a beanie. Being fourth in line, he has to put up with hand-me-downs from everyone - nappies that are getting rather thin, bodysuits pre-stained, pants that are pilled from lots of washing and hats that have holes from wear, not to mention odd sox and booties due to one being lost somewhere! Not only that, but a lot of the clothes he gets to wear have been worn by his sisters so he needs a sign on him to say "I am a boy, I'm just a fourth child so get to wear pink!" The other problem he has to cope with is not being allowed to sleep in his bed when he wants to - every morning he has to trudge up to school in all weathers (in the front pack at the moment as he can't quite walk alone!) Being a Southlander, the mornings are very cold and frosty and his head really feels it! He makes that trip again half way through the morning to take Brain Gym in his big brother's class, or to go to Playcentre or Music and Movement with his big sister. And again at the end of the school day to collect the older siblings from school. His life is chaotic to say the least. And when his eyes are open, he is bombarded with kisses and cuddles - nice? Most of the time, but not when you just want to have a bit of peace and quiet! Yes, Benjamin definitely deserves a wonderfully warm beanie from Cosy Toes that is totally his (as long as someone else doesn't think their head can fit into it!!)

  11. I think my best friend Lucy needs a beanie for her new baby who was born two days ago for quite a few reasons. First they actually called their baby "beanie" right through the pregnancy so a beanie is very apt. Second they are moving to Christchurch and it's very cold and frosty here and they will need to use your beautiful merino products so this is a great introduction to them. Third this is their first baby and they have absolutely no idea of what is in store and they are in Auckland now where the weather is warm. Forth they have been budgeting really hard so special treats are really nice for them. Fifth they have named their new baby girl "Tessa Kate" which is a beautiful name and she deserves to have a cosy head! I would also like to say that your products are wonderful and I use the merino socks and the woollen tights everyday! My two year old loves hers and my very skinny 5 year old who has just started school and really feels the cold wears her woollen tights and they keep her very cosy on the long frosty walks to school.

  12. I would love to get one of these beanies for my sister in law! After years of trying and some real heartache she is finally pregnant, and now past 3 months!! She finally believes that she will have this baby, that it's all real! She is now at the stage of looking and starting to buy baby clothes ... she would just love this! This baby has taken so long to grace this earth, we can finally spoil him/her like we have wanted to forever! Please please please xx

  13. My wee man is 10 months old today, his name is James Carl Brown and only has a wee bit of ginger hair to keep his head warm.We have recently moved to Southland from the Waikato and we are all finding it a bit chilly!!He loves his merino tights and long sleeved vest from cosy toes so a beanie for his gingernut would keep him cosy through the winter and spring months here in Riversdale. Love from his Mummy and Daddy

  14. I am the proud great aunt of the cutest little girl called Danyelle just turned 1 year old this Saturday past 19 July, who lives in Korea with her Mum and Dad on an American army base. Wouldn't she look the cutest thing in an NZ made merino beanie, and all those little Korean babies' Mums they would all be soo ... jealous and maybe want one too!
    Karen Tytsma

Danyelle's mum Denise Johnson writes: Hello from South Korea,
We would like to thank you for this little piece of home while we are living oceans away! As you can see she loves it, as do I because it is lightweight and comfortable so it stays on! Thank you.

  15. My daughter Charlotte (14 months old) deserves a new beanie because for the last two weeks she has had to come out to help me with shifting break fences for the sheep and the dairy grazers, she enjoys sitting in the truck watching me walk back and forth across the paddocks shifting the electric fences but I feel sooo guilty having her out in this horrible cold weather but even on the cold rainy days she still has a smile and a giggle for me when I get back in the truck she finds it absolutely hilarious when I get back in soaking wet when it has been raining. She doesn't complain I think that she somehow she understands that the job just has to be done and she makes the best of a miserable situation so I think she deserves a treat!
